Ministry Trip Planning
Ministry Selection
The following section concerns the determination of the nature of a team’s ministry. The team leader, congregation, or other groups sponsoring a team may wish to consider the definitions listed on the Definitions and Descriptions page initially, and then answer the following questions:
- What is requested by the on-site host, church, or organization?
- What is the main interest of the group sponsoring the team?
- What are the skills and interests of the team?
- Medical, construction
- Teaching
- Working with women, children, youth
- etc.
- What type of ministry is feasible given the personnel, site, etc.?
- What are the time frames? Time considerations include:
- Length of the trip
- Time needed for the ministry
- Seasons and weather
- Time for fund raising
- Planning time
- Time when team members are off work
- Time when convenient for host and host church
- What is the size of the group?
- What are the costs: for the team members, for the host church, for the sponsoring church, for the team leader?
- What is the efficiency factor: Interfacing of cost, time, ministry accomplishment,?
- What leadership is available?
Even after a ministry has been selected and planned for, the host, leader, and team must remain flexible. Situations and the best laid plans can and will change in moments and it is important that, in those cases, the people involved are willing and ready to change schedules and perhaps even the nature or scope of the ministry.
