FAQs

When should my group do Spread the Word?

The STW materials are typically non-dated, so they can be used at any time. It is our hope that Spread the Word will become a part of your ministry's "DNA" so that you are always aware of the possibilities to become involved. You could do annual, quarterly, or even monthly events to support STW. Some ministries even take a weekly offering. You and your students are free to be creative and be as involved as you feel led to be.

Will this affect giving to overall Church of God missions programs?

As a group, North American teenagers are one of the richest in terms of untapped disposable income. It is safe to say that the majority of our teenagers—even regular church goers—do not take part in giving to the church's overall mission programs. Spread the Word can help to create a pattern of giving to missions that will carry over into adulthood, and until now we have done very little to connect our youth to the worldwide mission of the Church of God.

Will this affect giving to the local church?

We are strongly committed to challenging students to give above and beyond their tithe to the local church.

How will the advisory board work?

This project will be reviewed and monitored by an advisory board consisting of the leader of Youth and Family Ministries, a Youth Ministry Team member, a Leadership Development & Congregational Health Team member, a missionary, and at least three other persons, two of which must be teenagers. This board reviews and agrees on the dispersal of funds before they are released.

Why are you doing this?

There are two primary reasons for this program. The first is to spread the saving news of the gospel to a lost world. The second is to help create a giving heart and a focus on others in teenagers that will continue throughout their lives.

Is this truly feasible? Will teenagers really give to missions?

They have already started! Since 2002 over $550,000 has been given through Spread the Word. Other groups have also proven that teenagers will give.

How do I give to Spread the Word?

The best way is to give through your church; but, you can also give individually. Your youth ministry can be a part of helping to change lives for eternity by participating in Spread the Word.

Checks should be made out to Church of God Ministries (Spread the Word). Make sure Spread the Word is indicated on the "payable to" line. Mail to:
