Project Link: FAQs

Project Link Header

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions that we hope will provide additional clarity to the information you will find in the Project Link section of our site.

Why was Project Link created?
There have been various reasons that have necessitated the creation of Project link. In the past, 30,000 projects were funded through the Basic Budget of Church of God Ministries. Because giving trends have changed throughout the US and Canada, this is no longer a viable option. Under the present system of funding 30,000 Projects through the Basic Budget the projects have not been able to expand and increase as Global Missions has needed to expand. It is hoped that as giving increases under the Project Link program the necessary projects that we promote and fund will also increase.

What is meant by 30,000 projects?
For accounting purposes all of our Global Missions projects have numbers to differentiate them from one another. For example 42.30137 is for Evangelism and Discipleship in Cote d'Ivoire. The first number 42 designates this as a Global Missions project. The next five numbers, 30137, indicate that this is a 30,000 project. These are the numbers that are included in all of our literature.

Is this program for 30,000 projects all around the world, or only for certain areas?
All of the projects that are presently 30,000 projects are included in Project Link. This is not just for one Region of the world it is for everyone.

Where will the cost of processing the projects come from?
Project Link must support itself. Project Link gives Global Missions the flexibility to grow and expand to support more projects as approved. Project Link is a self-supporting program with all essential support services included. Normally this is less than 8 percent. Funds will only be disbursed to projects as funds are received.

What about the transition period? How long do you think it will be before all of the projects are fully funded?
We have been working hard in our planning concerning this important period of time: the period where we switch 30,000 projects to Designated Giving. We are not sure how long this period of time will be. But we are striving through an intense campaign to reach every congregation in the US and Canada with the story of Project Link to make it as short as possible.

What is meant by Project Manager?
The Project Manager is the person who initially receives the funds from Global Missions. In some cases this is a missionary on the field, in other cases this may be a national leader or other designated person in country. They are responsible to receive, distribute and use the money as it was designated. The Project Manager is responsible for the writing and submitting the monthly financial report and the quarterly narrative report.

What reports are required and how frequently?
For accountability two reports are required.

  1. The Financial Report is a simple report that most Project Managers are presently keeping and sending in. It shows the date, name of the project, amount received, amount expended (spent), and the balance. This report is filled out by the Project Manager and sent to the Global Missions office through the Regional Coordinator each month.
  2. The Narrative Report is a report in words about how the money for each project was used. This report is not necessarily long but it shows how the church has benefited from the funds given. This Narrative Report is sent by the Project Manager to the Global Missions office through the Regional Coordinator every three months. At least once a year pictures are included with this report.

What will happen if reports are not received?
The reports are the most important aspect of continued interest and funding of these projects. If reports do not come in each quarter the Project Manager will be notified. If reports do not come in during the second consecutive quarter the project will be suspended, and donors will be notified.

What will happen when not enough donations come in during the month to give the requested monthly amount?
All projects will be on a monthly remittance (A remittance is the transfer of funds from Church of God Ministries to the field. This is done through international wires, Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), bank drafts, or by issuance of a check). Because of the high cost of sending money by Wire Transfers, funds will not be sent until a minimum amount is accumulated. The minimum amount will apply only to International wires and bank drafts that have a sending fee attached to them. Money coming in to the project will be held in the project account at Church of God Ministries until funds exceed the minimum amount.  In some cases the Project Manager may request the funds to be sent quarterly.  Every remittance will be evaluated each month.

What kinds of projects are included in Project link?
Project Link projects are foundational projects that help ensure the continuation of the church. They are projects that come from the heart of our Global Missions mission statement.
Global Missions of Church of God Ministries exists to identify, prepare, and send missionaries, and to partner with Churches of God around the world to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt 28:18--20).
We do so by:
Evangelism and discipleship
Equipping and sustaining leaders for ministry
Establishing churches
Modeling the compassion of Christ

What projects will be sent quarterly and twice a year?
This will be determined by the Project Manager and through communication with Global Missions and the Regional Coordinator. Some projects are small and it will be more financially sound if sent quarterly. (See also; What will happen when not enough donations come in during the month to give the requested monthly amount? Above)

What kind of projects are Regional Projects?
We have established five new projects for our Regional Coordinators. As the Regional Coordinators travel within their regions they encounter needs and projects that are worthy of support. These Regional Projects will allow the Regional Coordinator to be able to respond immediately to the need.
