Ground Broken for Construction of New Hunter Missionary Residences
Global Missions

Don Johnson andn Al Grant break groundOn March 15, 2004 at 10:00 AM, employees of Church of God Ministries gathered at 2008 East Tenth Street, in Anderson, Indiana, to break ground for the new Hunter Missionary Residences. Don Johnson presided over the ceremony, which concluded with a benedictory prayer by the general director, Ronald V. Duncan. Don Johnson, who is overseeing the project for Church of God Ministries, and Rev. Albert Grant, team director of Outreach Ministries, carried out the ceremonial turning of the first shovels of dirt.

Named after Nora Hunter, founder of Women of the Church of God, the new residences will consist of two units that will house missionaries who are on leave from the field. These residences will provide a place where they can rest and relax in the midst of an always-hectic schedule of traveling to churches, camp meetings, and conventions. Missionaries often have no home in the United States, and the missionary apartments become, literally and figuratively, a home away from home for them.

Located next to the existing Crose Missionary Residences, the exterior of the new units will look like the six units next door, but will contain several new and improved features. Some of the features include:

  • Two bathrooms in the one-story unit
  • Two complete bathrooms on the second floor of the two-story unit
  • A bay window in each of the living rooms
  • A front entrance off of the driveway
  • A study area and large walk-in closet in the master bedroom of the two-story unit
  • Underground electrical service

Construction began on March 16, the day after breaking ground. The driveway has been roughed in for use by construction vehicles. The exterior of the residences should be complete by the middle of June, in time for 2004 North American Convention of the Church of God. During the convention, Global Missions of Church of God Ministries will host a come-and-go open house so that those who wish to visit can see the new residences, as well as the existing apartments. The open house will be held on Sunday, June 27, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

The project has proceeded according to plan thus far, but there is still need for additional assistance as we move into the construction phase of the project. If you would like to contribute financially to the Hunter Missionary Residence project or if you would like to schedule a work camp to participate in the construction of the building, please contact Donald Johnson at Church of God Ministries by phone at 1-800-848-2464, ext. 2133, or by e-mail at DJohnson@chog.org.
