Fireproof Addresses Marital Unity
By David Farlow
Fireproof, the new film from the creators of Facing the Giants, will premiere on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in Byrum Hall, and those attending the convention are invited to the free screening. Pastors, lay leaders, and their spouses are encouraged to attend. Seating is limited to the first five hundred.
The movie tells the emotionally powerful story of a firefighter and his fight to rescue the heart of his wife and save his marriage. The producers recognize the importance of providing pastors, lay leaders, and their spouses with a preview of this film before its general release in theaters this fall. Those who attend the premiere will receive a DVD with ministry resources to help build and strengthen Christian marriages.
The movie is already uniting marriage advocates from across the country. National groups such as Focus on the Family, Outreach, FamilyLife, The Marriage CoMission, America’s Family Coaches, AMFM, Marriage Alive Communications, and MarriageToday have endorsed it.
Fireproof mirrors the problems in many marriages, in this case through the story of a firefighter whose high-stress job spills into his home life. Hitting on pain points common to married life—from indifference to insults to emotional affairs and Internet porn—the story opens with a couple’s disintegration and asks the questions, Can a cold marriage revive? Why stay together?
