Global Missions to Celebrate Centennial at 2009 Convention
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General, Global Missions

By Dan Harman

Next year’s North American Convention may indeed be the most historic, most exciting Church of God gathering ever held. Church of God missionaries and a host of people from throughout the world will come to Anderson to help celebrate the one hundredth year of organized Church of God cross-cultural ministry. Those who come will get to meet international leaders, listen to their stories, learn about the saving of souls on every continent, and celebrate what God has been doing for a century around the globe.

As Doris Dale, chair of the NAC Centennial Celebration for Global Missions, said, “Over these one hundred years, many lives have been touched by the message of salvation, and this celebration is a time to give glory and honor to our Savior.” The Church of God has a presence in eighty-nine countries and a missionary presence in twenty-six of those countries. Next year’s convention theme is “Live out the Love of Christ,” a fitting theme for these festivities celebrating the work of one hundred years in the field of global evangelism.

Bob Edwards, coordinator of Global Missions at Church of God Ministries, said with excitement, “We wish to welcome everyone who can come to join with us as we explore how the Church of God has made a significant Christian imprint on the world.” In time for the celebration will be the publication of an update and expansion of Lester Crose’s landmark history of Church of God missions, Passport for a Reformation. This update and expansion is being written by Cheryl Johnson Barton and Donald Johnson.

The five evening services of the 2009 convention will feature internationally known speakers, and each service will highlight one of the five Global Missions regions: Africa, Asia–Pacific, Caribbean–Atlantic, Europe–Middle East, and Latin America. Services will feature live-streamed presentations and prerecorded testimonies, as well as stories and music from around the globe. You will be blessed and enriched.

Don’t miss Saturday’s annual Family Day. The theme will be “a world’s fair” featuring games, music, food, and fun for all ages. An International Main Street will lead you into the Kardatzke Wellness Center, where much of the celebration will take place. NAC 2009 will be a centennial celebration that you won’t want to miss. Make your plans now to experience the global scope of God’s work through the Church of God.
