What could be better than a few days of peaceful renewal in the North Carolina mountains at the peak of the fall color change? Add to that picture the company of some of the finest folks you will ever want to meet. Then mix in CBH host Jim Lyon, Sandi Patty Peslis, along with husband Don, Sandi’s parents Ron and Carolyn Patty, and CBH cohosts Kimberly Majeski and Obadiah Smith. Well, what a time it will be!

CBH’s Retreat to the Cove will take place October 19–22, 2008, at the Billy Graham Training Center—The Cove, just outside Ashville, North Carolina. Sandi, Don, Carolyn, and Ron, all longtime friends of the CBH ministry, will be providing music and worship leadership at this year’s retreat. Jim, Kimberly, and Obadiah will be speaking and teaching in what promises to be an unforgettable few days in the presence of God.

You know, Jesus found himself, from time to time, at points in life where he needed to draw away for a time to be alone with God. The drain of life and ministry on our Lord often led to moments of needed rest and prayer. These occasions renewed his spirit and body with the energy necessary to carry out the call of God on his life. The Bible reminds us that Jesus went away by himself to pray in a desert (Luke 5:15).

Jesus sees each of our lives as well—busy, exhausting, filled with challenges and opportunity, fears and anxieties, questions and desires to know God more completely. His words to us are still as fresh as they were to those who walked with him two thousand years ago. “Come to me, all of you who work and have heavy loads. I will give you rest. Follow my teachings and learn from me. I am gentle and do not have pride. You will have rest for your souls” (Matt 11:28–29, paraphrase).

It is our prayer that in these few days at The Cove, you will give yourselves license to come away with God. Come a little closer. Fall before him. Follow his teachings. Walk and pray. Grab a rocker and see God’s beauty. Have a conversation. Learn from him. For in these moments there is no work more important, no task more pressing, and no need more urgent than for you to rest in the Lord. Renew your spirit. Submerse yourself in his Word. Allow the Spirit of God to refresh you completely.
