The Annual Christ's Birthday Observance
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General

The December 23, 1950 Gospel Trumpet recorded the words of the Woman's Missionary Society President Ocie Perry, "For some time there has been a feeling on the part of  many Christians that the Christmas festivities were not Christ-centered...we have forgotten the Christ whose birthday we are celebrating."

The women of Ocie Perry's day, in cooperation with the Church of God World Service, pledged themselves to underwrite the World Service Budget for 200 hours with prayer and money in the first year of the Christ's Birthday Observance.  Fifty-eight years later, Women of the Church of God carries on the work of the former Woman's Missionary Society in developing, promoting, and conducting the Christ's Birthday Observance.  The initial goals are the same:

  • Focus our attention and devotion on Jesus Christ, our Messiah.
  • Encourage prayer support for the entire world and specifically all the countries in which the Church of God exists.
  • Collect an offering in support of the Church of God World Ministries Budget.

The Christ’s Birthday Observance gives us the opportunity to reflect and be grateful for the wondrous gift of the birth of our Lord and Savior.” said Rev. Arnetta McNeese Bailey, executive director for the Women of the Church of God. “It also unites the Church of God each year towards a common goal of supporting the essential ministries of the church.”

As we enter into this time of reflection and praise, join with other churches for this offering of prayer, devotion, and monetary support.

“Every dollar given touches lives for Christ and is vital to the mission of the Church of God,” said Bailey. To learn about all the ministries supported by the offering, click here
