Global Missions is pleased to announce the new assignment for career missionary Don Deena Johnson. In this new position Don Deena will serve alongside Church of God leaders in the United Kingdom to develop an ongoing strategy for leadership and discipleship training in that country and to participate in training and mentoring leaders. She will also share in congregational ministry as a part of the body of Christ. The two-year assignment will begin in January 2009.

Don Deena comes from a family of missionaries, pastors, and educators. Her lifelong commitment to ministry within the Church of God has likewise been expressed in those areas of service. She has served three Church of God congregations on the West Coast, focusing on educational and outreach ministries. In addition, she has taught, as a special assignment missionary, in Tokyo, Japan, and Beirut, Lebanon.

Don Deena graduated from Warner Pacific College in 1975, received a master of education in 1982, and in 2001 completed a master of divinity at Anderson University School of Theology.

Believing that there is no participation in Christ without participation in his mission to the world, Don Deena is concerned for the church’s self-understanding and its commitment to and engagement in mission in the world. Furthermore, she believes that mission is inseparable from the educative ministry of the church. She writes, “For the purpose of mission, we educate in order to inform, to spiritually form, and to transform not only individuals but also the body of Christ.”

Don Deena believes that God is calling her to promote the discussion of just such a vision for the church: to educate, to disciple, and to encourage people for mission within our communities and throughout the world.
