Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Tim Brault
Each year, the Information Technology Services department of Church of God Ministries (ITS) facilitates the annual registration process for all credentialed ministers and congregations of the Church of God. For the convenience of those attending the North American Convention, ITS is providing additional ways to complete the registration process. An ITS representative will be available Monday through Wednesday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in room 106 of the Church of God Ministry Center (just outside the reception area) to complete minister and church registrations. Additionally, two computer workstations located in the lobby of the Ministry Center may be used to register via the Internet.

Boot Camp reinvigorates pastors and church planters
By Susan Kane
Church planting expert Phil Claycomb returned for a second year to lead “The Art of the Start,” a three-day workshop geared toward new church planters and church revitalization teams. More than twenty-five pastors, planters, and church leaders from across the country attended the conference, whose focus was not just on planting new churches but on providing the necessary tools for those desiring to turn struggling congregations around. “I have a burden for the decline of churches, not just Church of God churches, across the country,” shared Vanna Powell, from Madison, South Dakota. “It’s been helpful to find that there are others with a similar concern.”

Missions conference focuses on the strategic value of urban centers
By Kelley Philips
On Saturday, Global Missions hosted the annual One World One Mission Conference, with this year’s focus on gateway cities. Setting the tempo for the conference, Dr. Mary Ann Hawkins (professor of intercultural studies at AUSOT) discussed the theological and philosophical foundation of urban ministries worldwide, leading those in attendance to think through the principles that guide our approach to ministries in gateway cities. Patrick Nachtigall (missionary in Hong Kong) then focused attention on the broad strategic value of evangelization and discipleship in the major gateway cities of the world by influencing the global influencers who call these urban crossroads home for a season or even, perhaps, for a lifetime. Narrowing the focus to a specific gateway city, Kelley Philips (regional coordinator, Europe–Middle East) spoke about Global Missions’ upcoming project, Gateway Berlin, and the vision for Berlin that the Church of God in Germany has put forth, to establish a center that will be home to multilingual ministries, an urban training center for youth, as well as a regional resource center.

AU celebrates gentle strength of unity through story and song
By Dan Harman
From the opening by the 250-voice choir, leading an excited assembly in "Worship the King," to the concluding "How Great Thou Art," the Friday evening launch of the North American Convention was a celebration to be remembered.
Anderson University president James L. Edwards began it: “From the beginnings of our movement, we have done things together, and this ‘camp meeting’ is another reminder that our unity with Jesus brings a quiet, powerful impact to our life together.”

Let’s Celebrate Unity!
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Dr. Ronald V. Duncan
Welcome to the 122nd North American Convention of the Church of God. This year’s convention promises to be an exciting time for worship, spiritual growth, fellowship and renewal as we celebrate unity.
In John 17, Jesus prayed expressing the hope and aspiration for the people and churches of the kingdom of God in regard to unity. Our aim during the convention is to see the church as seen through the eyes of Jesus. The theme of “Celebrate Unity” provides an outstanding opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to holiness and unity

EDITORIAL: Welcoming Church of God’s global spirit

Our great religious texts — including the Bible, Torah and Koran — all profess the goodness of a unified faith community.
The sense of mutual respect and understanding has been evident in the Church of God camp meetings of the 1960s, when nearly 25,000 congregants lived, worshipped and shared together.
A community spirit still shines at annual gatherings as it surely will for the 122nd North American Convention of the Church of God that begins today.

Get a front-row seat at the Global Missions conferences
By Kathi Sellers
God is doing amazing things in his church around the world. The Global Missions conferences at the 2008 North American Convention will give you a front-row seat to stories of changed lives, divine healing, and astonishing opportunities.
The people of the world are congregating in large urban settlings. In cities like Berlin and Hong Kong, you will find people from a multitude of ethnic backgrounds open to the gospel. The “One World, One Mission” conference will consider this as a window of opportunity. Will the church meet the need? Your prayers, your gifts, your missionaries will make the
