The Sound of Silence

 “You have ten days to pack up and leave our country!” This was a phone call I didn’t want to receive, an order I was hoping not to hear. For almost twenty years, I have been ministering in a country where it is illegal to be a missionary. Christians who are called to this land go as tentmakers. They get their visas by becoming educators and language students, or by starting businesses or development projects.

CBH Group Returns from Cote D’Ivoire West Africa

 After finishing up the studio on Friday we ended the week by heading back to Abidjan to prepare for the trip home. We spent the night at a hotel on the beach in Grand Bassam, the colonial capital of Cote D’Ivoire, and did some shopping in the area on Sunday.

CBH- Eye on the World Ministry Team in West Africa

 On January 31, a CBH Eye on the World Ministry Team headed to Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa, to continue the progress toward launching a new French radio broadcast in the fall of 2008. This new French effort will allow CBH to begin reaching out to the more than twenty-two French-speaking countries on the continent of Africa.

Lilly Announces 9th Year for Clergy Renewal Program

Attention Church of God pastors and congregations. The Lilly Endowment is accepting grant applications from pastors for the National Clergy Renewal Program. The Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment announced a ninth-year extension of the program, which has awarded more than one thousand grants in its history, several to Church of God pastors.
“We ask pastors to consider ‘what will make your heart sing,’” said Craig Dykstra, senior vice president for religion at the Endowment. “Pastors and congregations both benefit from this period of renewal. Pastors are given a rare chance to get away from the demands of daily parish ministry. The renewal of a pastor’s heart and spirituality is part of his or her ‘job description’ and is essential to the spiritual quality of a congregation’s life.

 News media reporting out of Kenya indicates the violence is diminishing, but many of the Church of God congregations are still feeling the effects of the turmoil. To address the immediate needs and help alleviate the suffering, Church of God Ministries (CGM) announced today a disbursement from the Disaster Relief Fund to be sent to church leaders in Kenya.
