Arlington Church of God collects coats for needy
By Bill Lilley
Staff writer Akron (OH) Beacon Journal
Diane Lewis believes the annual Martin Luther King Day holiday is too significant to merely be a day ''off.'' Lewis wants it to be a day ''on'' in her mission to help people in the community.
That's why the associate minister and director of the We Care Outreach at Arlington Church of God is coordinating the collection of used coats, hats, hoodies and gloves to be given out Jan. 21 at the church's annual Warmth for Winter/Winter Wear Giveaway.

ChoG Not Affected Yet by Kenyan Turmoil
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General, Global Missions
|
|
By David Farlow
Initial reports from Kenya indicate that the Church of God congregations and missionaries there are unharmed by the recent violence associated with the frustration over the presidential elections held on December 27.
“We are in daily contact with our missionaries, who are located in the Kisumu region of Kenya,” said Bob Edwards, Global Missions coordinator for Church of God Ministries. “At this time we have not heard of any loss of life for any of our Church of God Christians.”

House of Joy: It's Not about Me
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Susan Kane, Church Multiplication
“It’s not about me.” This phrase is not often heard in today’s society. Instead, phrases like “What’s mine is mine,” “I deserve it,” and “It’s all about me” are heard more likely. Serving others is not the rule but the exception. House of Joy, in Valdosta, Georgia, however, is reversing this trend and making meeting the needs of others their top priority.

Stewardship Resources Benefit Kentucky Congregation
Church of God Ministries
|
In 2006, the World Ministry Advance office of Church of God Ministries supplied every congregation with a resource kit for a month of stewardship. “Lordship Living” included a DVD containing four videos, a CD-ROM full of resources, and a book by Stan and Linda Toler.
First Church of God, Morehead, Kentucky, used the Lordship Living resources to plan a year of stewardship education. Their congregation has experienced an increase of 10 to 12 percent in giving to the budget during the last two years using the Toler material.

Highs and Lows in Paraguay
Church of God Ministries, Global Missions
|
By David Miller, Regional Coordinator, Latin America
The Lord’s work has its highs and lows, as we all have experienced. When Marcos and Cristiane Kurrle moved to Asunción, Paraguay, last year in answer to God’s call to begin an inner-city youth center, they had only a vague idea of what lay in store. Their dream unexpectedly took flight, however, when a Christian businessman offered them use of an office building strategically located in the city center. Soon they were hosting scores of Asunción’s youth for rec-and-rap sessions, leading some to the Lord, discipling others in their walk with Christ.

2008 International Forum for Pastoral Workers
Church of God Ministries, Global Missions
|
By David & Barbara Miller, Regional Coordinators, Latin America
In October, at the International Forum for Pastoral Workers in Argentina, Mario Hort presented a workshop titled “The Uses and Abuses of Christian Radio.” We invited Mario, a seventeen-year veteran of CBH Radio-Portuguese, to do this because so many preachers in Latin America exploit the mass media to broadcast messages that, shall we say, contradict much of what Jesus teaches in the New Testament.

Fuel Week 2008
Church of God Ministries
|
FUEL Week (January 27–February 3, 2008) is a time during which youth and youth leaders are provided with the encouragement and the resources to underscore living a life of holiness. Several church groups sharing this passion have come together to remind each other that we are not alone in this pursuit.
Participating youth groups can access free FUEL Week materials at www.fuelweek.org. These include meeting outlines/lessons that can be adapted for specific contexts, daily devotional materials, plans for group events and service projects, downloadable/printable FUEL Week artwork, and information on how to structure activities during FUEL Week. Best of all, it’s FREE! Just go to the Web site, check it out, and download what you need.
