Kid's Place Celebrates 25 Years
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By Kathleen D. Buehler

Morgan Hale and Morgan AllenFor the past twenty-five years, Kid’s Place has been helping children experience other cultures and come to realize that God is at work all over the world. The children have been able to meet missionaries and learn about people from such places as Egypt, Lebanon, Brazil, India, Russia, Africa, Japan, the Caribbean, and others.

This year, the children at Kid’s Place are visiting China. After the children arrive each morning at Hartung Hall, they meet with their family groups (carrying family names such as Shu, Guah, and Ma) and move to Byrum for a large group worship time led by Duane Parker of Mississippi and Mark Hawkins of Michigan and their guitars.

Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By Kevin Stiffler

IYC2008 logoFrom all across North America and around the world, thousands of teenagers and youth leaders will converge on San Antonio, Texas, for the 46th International Youth Convention of the Church of God, July 14–17, 2008. The goal of IYC is to create moments for life change, raising up a new generation of Christ-centered leaders.

The International Youth Convention of the Church of God began in 1924 as a simple “youth day” during the annual Anderson camp meeting. In 1930, the first separate youth convention was held. Since that time, the biennial gathering has been held in various cities across the United States, as well as in three provinces in Canada.

GA asked to approve a baseline budget process
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By David Farlow and Dewayne Repass

The General Assembly received a series of reports on Tuesday about the World Ministries Budget. S. Jeffrey Perkins, chair of the General Assembly budget task force charged with examining the issues relating to the shortfall in giving, presented a written and verbal report on the findings. The report was frank and to the point, noting that part of the shortfall in the budget were due to the fact that only 64 percent of our congregations gave in support of the GA budget in 2007. He likened the situation to a sports team with only two-thirds of the players actually participating in the game “You can’t win that way,” said an impassioned Perkins.

A Diverse Unity

Service demonstrates unity in visible diversity of ministry

By Kathleen D. Buehler

Michigan Youth Choir The Monday night service carried a focus of diversity in unity. Diversity of generation was visible in the worship team made up of worship leaders and their children, as well as in the youth choir made up of singers from Michigan and Indiana, which performed and helped lead the singing.

Diversity in ministry was evident as seven military chaplains were introduced by David Erb, of Church of God Ministries, representing the twenty-one U.S. military chaplains of the Church of God now serving in various posts around the world.

God’s Dream for the Church
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By Todd Braschler

Todd Braschler We know that God has a dream for the church. Participants of Monday’s daylong workshop “Equipping the Church of God’s Dreams” discovered what that entails.

Scripture describes many details about the kind of church God intended. He promises a very powerful gift to the body of Christ when we are passionate about staying on track with the purpose and dream he initiated for the church: the extraordinary power of his Spirit. If you’ve ever been involved in ministry without the anointing of God, you know what a job ministry becomes; it’s powerless and unfulfilling, lacking the vitality of what should be in the body of Christ. Man’s effort combined with God’s anointing produces the church of his dreams.

“Why Do You Attend Camp Meeting?”
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By Bill Ellis

2008 campers Why do people come every year from all over the United States and many foreign countries to this great meeting? My first trip was to learn more about the Church of God and get a glimpse of the college I was to attend that fall. Recently, I have been asking a lot of people why they first came and why they continue to come.

Our daughter Liz simply said, “We had to go because you and mom never missed it. I liked it because I got to see a lot of friends, hear great music, and meet people I would spend four years with at Anderson University.”

Forming Multiethnic Congregations
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By MaryAnn Hawkins

Monday morning found Anderson University School of Theology professors Dr. James Lewis  and Dr. MaryAnn Hawkins with a group of pastors and laity from across the country discussing the why, the what, and the how of multiethnic ministry.

The why was established from Scripture in an understanding of the missio dei, God’s mission, as God seeking relationship with all people, from the call of Abraham to be a blessing to the nations (Gen 12:1–3) to the apocalyptic vision of John the Revelator of “every tribe and nation, and language and people” (Rev 5:9; 7:9).

National Association of Evangelism Honors Heroes
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
By Connie Cissna

When I was in college, Dr. Kenneth Jones surprised the editor of a local newspaper when he said, “The report of my death has been greatly exaggerated!” Dr. Jones was more right then he knew. On earth, the Christ’s church may loose warriors in the battle, but their legacy lives on far beyond death. The Bible tells us that one of the gifts a Christian leaves to the next generation is a strong foundation for Christ. When God wanted to punish a wicked king in the Old Testament, he would blot out their name forever, as though they had never existed. If a leader stood strong for God, their legacy was a blessing for all future generations. Thus are the remembrances of the great heroes of the faith honored this year in the national meeting of the National Association of Evangelism (NAE).
