Why Camp? It’s About Being Family
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Sarah Loftis
Relationships. We all have the need for people in our lives. Connection. After a year apart, seeing one another again feeds the soul. North American Convention. A chance to be reconnected with old friends.
As each June approaches, those of us who live in Anderson look forward to the sight of campers coming into town. It reminds each of us of the willing hearts of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to be a part of something special: to be a part of the family of God and the celebration that takes place within that family each June. As space has opened up in dormitories and hotels in the area, though, some of us do ask the question, Why camp? It’s a question I’ve often asked and one that is eagerly answered by repeat campers.

Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Sarah Loftis
With each scoop of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream, we said thank you. Every gift handed out was a token of our appreciation.
At the direction of the general director of Church of God Ministries, Ronald V. Duncan, World Ministry Advance strives to recognize the many partnerships that contribute to the effective ministry carried on by Church of God Ministries. The fifth annual ice cream fellowship held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:30 was one small way for us to express our appreciation to the camping group.

Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General, Colleges and Universities
|
By David Neidert
The Doctrinal Dialogue, hosted by Anderson University School of Theology, was initiated to help the Church of God consider important topics in the life of its congregations and the wider Christian community. This format, suggested by Dr. Ronald Duncan, provides for original scholarly research and discussion of topics as gleaned from the voice of the church. The Dialogue has previously covered the topics of eschatology, sanctification, eternal security, phenomena of the Spirit, and Christian unity.

Duncan challenges believers
By Joseph D. Allison
Though smaller than those of recent years, the Saturday night crowd of the North American Convention was nonetheless enthusiastic as Curtis Ferrell, the Thulin Family, and other musicians led them in worship. The service focused upon the convention theme, “Celebrate Unity.”
Ronald V. Duncan, executive director of Church of God Ministries, Inc., delivered a sermon based on Ephesians 4:1–6. He recalled meeting a woman who shared the pain of being rejected by her local church because she had borne a child out of wedlock. She then asked him, “What kind of church do you have?” Dr. Duncan said the question was troubling. It made him realize that many Christians do not demonstrate the love of Christ to one another, much less to strangers.

Boot Camp reinvigorates pastors and church planters
By Susan Kane
Church planting expert Phil Claycomb returned for a second year to lead “The Art of the Start,” a three-day workshop geared toward new church planters and church revitalization teams. More than twenty-five pastors, planters, and church leaders from across the country attended the conference, whose focus was not just on planting new churches but on providing the necessary tools for those desiring to turn struggling congregations around. “I have a burden for the decline of churches, not just Church of God churches, across the country,” shared Vanna Powell, from Madison, South Dakota. “It’s been helpful to find that there are others with a similar concern.”

Missions conference focuses on the strategic value of urban centers
By Kelley Philips
On Saturday, Global Missions hosted the annual One World One Mission Conference, with this year’s focus on gateway cities. Setting the tempo for the conference, Dr. Mary Ann Hawkins (professor of intercultural studies at AUSOT) discussed the theological and philosophical foundation of urban ministries worldwide, leading those in attendance to think through the principles that guide our approach to ministries in gateway cities. Patrick Nachtigall (missionary in Hong Kong) then focused attention on the broad strategic value of evangelization and discipleship in the major gateway cities of the world by influencing the global influencers who call these urban crossroads home for a season or even, perhaps, for a lifetime. Narrowing the focus to a specific gateway city, Kelley Philips (regional coordinator, Europe–Middle East) spoke about Global Missions’ upcoming project, Gateway Berlin, and the vision for Berlin that the Church of God in Germany has put forth, to establish a center that will be home to multilingual ministries, an urban training center for youth, as well as a regional resource center.
