In the wake of Hurricane Dean’s devastation of the Jamaica, Church of God Ministries is continuing to monitor and assess the situation on the island. In an e-mail received Friday, Rev. Lenworth Anglin, the national leader of the Church of God in Jamaica, said the Church of God has confirmed that eleven churches lost their roofs in the storm. Anglin reported that four homes of congregation members where destroyed as well, leaving the families homeless.

Following the aftermath of Hurricane Dean’s trek across the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico the past few days, the Disaster Relief Response Committee of the Church of God Ministries met today to share updated information, coordinate efforts, and strategize next steps on how to help those affected by the storm.

On Monday, Obadiah Smith, coordinator of compassionate ministries and homeland ministries at Church of God Ministries in Anderson, lead “How to Equip the Church to Respond to Disaster by Being Prepared,” guiding attendees through a detailed training session.

On Friday, February 2, three tornados struck Lady Lake, Florida, killing twenty people and destroying hundreds of homes. The destruction of Lady Lake Church of God, a congregation affiliated with the Church of God of Cleveland, Tennessee, has also been widely featured in the national media.
