The Church of God is responding to the disaster in Goma, Congo, where the eruption of Mount Nyiragongo has destroyed up to forty percent of the city and about eighty percent of the business district. Some parts of the city are covered by up to ten feet of lava.

On September 11, 2001, the world watched in horror as terrorists launched attacks against targets in the United States. Today many will take a moment to reflect on the lives lost—from the U.S. and other nations of the world—at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and at the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

On June 3, 2002 David Erb, Chaplains Ministry coordinator and retired Navy chaplain, and Obadiah Smith, coordinator of Compassionate Ministries, delivered gifts of hope to 190 families who lost a loved one during the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon.

On the afternoon of January 30, Church of God Ministries employees heard a firsthand account, and words of gratitude, from a firefighter who responded to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

December 12 was three months and one day after one of the most tragic days in the history of the United States. It was also the day that Major Ron Richardson of  the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Rev. Obadiah Smith of the Compassionate Ministries office of Church of God Ministries, and Rev. Benny Santiago of the chaplaincy program of the Madison County Sheriff's Department began six days of ministry, serving, and witnessing.

The Church of God relief effort was among the first on the scene in the town of Mullens, one of several areas hard hit by flooding in West Virginia earlier this month.

Floods in the Houston, Texas, area have resulted in damage to the homes of nineteen Church of God families. Only one of these families had flood insurance.
